surati sandesa sunāya meṭo ballabhina kau dāhu

kāma pāvaka tūlamaya tana biraha svāsa samīra

bhasama nāhina hota pāvata locanana ke nīra

kahauń kahā banāya tumasoń sakhā sādhu paravīna

TRANSLATION

Refrain: Uddhava, go quickly to Braja!

Give my dear ones the message of my loving memory, and end their burning pain. Their bodies are a lamp-wick lit with passionÂ’s fire, their lovelorn sighs inflame it like a wind.

Only the tears that fall from their eyes save them from burning to ashes. When they have no remedy for their state, how can these women be steadfast?

I do not need to explain anything to you, my wise and good friend. Sura Dasa says, Â“Think well on this. Can a fish live without water?Â”
